MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS

Red Cross Clubs

Students may receive Red Cross training, create and lead service-learning project in their community, organize fundraising efforts for the Red Cross, and develop their leadership skills in an after-school Red Cross Club.

International School Chests

Maryland students unite as part of a state-wide service-learning project by sending school supplies to AIDS orphans in Malawi, a small country in Africa.

Outreach Opportunities

Refugee Youth Project

An after-school tutorial aimed at increasing English literacy in refugee youth and helping them interact with American youth.

Red Cross Players

A school-based, student-led drama troupe that writes and performs plays on emergency preparedness and social issues for young students.

Red Cross Clubs

Students start Red Cross Clubs at their school to create service-learning projects, lead fund-raisers, and receive Red Cross and leadership training.

CROSSroads Newsletter

Youth volunteers take on positions as editors and reporters of this youth-led Red Cross newsletter.

Leadership Adventures

Students gain professional skills they can practice while organizing service-learning projects in the community.

Speak Out!

Students train with professionals to learn to speak, write and publish materials about the Red Cross movement.

COLLEGE AND BEYOND

Red Cross Corps

College student leaders and faculty facilitate Red Cross service-learning projects, receive disaster training, and host blood drives.  Specialized leadership training is provided.

Leadership Trainers

Volunteer trainers pair-up with students to facilitate leadership training given to middle, high school, and college club leaders in the Central Maryland area.  Training typically run between 1-5 hours and cover topics like motivation, fundraising, diversity, and facilitation.

OTHER VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Blood:

  • Greeter- Greet and register donors when they arrive at the donor site.
  • Canteen- Serve snacks to donors and replenish refreshment table.
  Special Events:
  • Special Events Coordinator- Help organize a local Red Cross recognition or fundraising event.
  • Fred Cross Mascot- Entertain crowds at various Red Cross events in the Fred Cross costume.
  Holocaust:
  • Tracing Specialist - Assist tracing specialists in the Holocaust and War Victim Tracing and Information Center. Due to the sensitivity of this work, volunteers must be 17.
  • Translator - Join a Red Cross language bank and help translate different languages.
