Give us Your Vehicle...And Get a Break From Uncle Sam
Do you have a car, boat, trailer, or other type of vehicle you no longer need but would like us to put to good use? We can help. Donate the vehicle to the Red Cross. Not only will you make a great difference in the life of someone in need, but you'll get a valuable tax deduction as well. You can't lose!

We'll Even Pick it Up
We will email you the date the vehicle will be picked up. All vehicles must be vintage 1994 or newer, on wheels and either in the driveway or on the street -- tow trucks will not drive into yards.

Charitable Contributions of Cars, Boats, and Other Vehicles
If you donate a car to the Red Cross of Central MD after December 31, 2004, your deduction is limited to the gross proceeds from its sale by the organization. This rule applies only if the value of the donated vehicle is more than $500.

Boats and Other Vehicles
These rules also apply to donations of boats and any vehicle manufactured mainly for use on public streets, roads, and highways.

Acknowledgement required

If the claimed value of the car is more than $500, you must have a written acknowledgement of your donation from the Red Cross and must attach it to your return.
Your acknowledgement will include the following information:

  1. Your name and taxpayer identification number (Social Security Number).
  2. The vehicle identification number.
  3. The gross proceeds from the sale.
  4. The date of the contribution.

Every Vehicle Helps!

Vehicles donated to the Red Cross are used to help disaster victims when they need it most. Proceeds from the sale of donated vehicles enable workers to return to their jobs, children to return to schools, and families to move back home or find new housing. Vehicles which are unfit for driving provide a valuable resource for parts.

This acknowledgement will be provided within 30 days of the sale of the car.
