Join Maryland Schools in
Aiding African School Children
School Chests To Be Sent To Disaster Victims
Courses take just a few seconds to load...
This project is made possible through a collaboration of the American Red Cross, Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Governor's Office on Service and Volunteerism, Maryland State Department of Education, Maryland Student Service Alliance, YMCA of Central Maryland, and teachers and students from Maryland's public schools.

Join schools across Maryland and help set a national record! In celebration of 2001: The International Year of the Volunteer, American schools will prepare school chests to benefit children in African country who've been affected by disaster. The program will culminate with the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) Service-Learning Conference to be held at Villa Julie College, March 22, 2001. Get your school involved!

This is an exciting statewide service-learning project. Your school or youth group can take part in a project with far-reaching implications through the Red Cross International School Chest Program. In a few months, your school will receive an invitation to be part of a program to benefit schools worldwide that are affected by disaster. You will also receive a starter curriculum designed to meet Maryland's core objectives while allowing students to serve international needs.

Let's get recognized at the State Conference! Chests will be collected in advance from groups who cannot attend so you DO NOT need to be there to participate in the Program. With all Maryland schools and youth groups participating, this will be the largest School Chest effort in the history of the American Red Cross! We may make it in The Guinness Book of World Records!
