Overview

Health Information Management Manager Ambulatory Clinics (0922 Manager I) works in the San Francisco Department of Public Health.

This role provides leadership over multiple clinic-wide functions within the Health Information Management Mid Revenue Cycle Department. The manager directs a team of over a dozen staff and ensures accurate, compliant, and integral medical records, documentation, and data. The position aligns operations with business development, decision support, outcomes analysis, information exchange, and health policy priorities.

Base pay range: $134,576.00/yr $171,834.00/yr.

Responsibilities

• Lead and strategically direct HIM Mid Revenue Cycle Department functions, aligning with organizational goals.
• Organize and prioritize departmental work to ensure timely coding and compliance with regulatory requirements, coordinating with Utilization Management, Patient Financial Services, and Revenue Integrity.
• Manage workflows, policies, and procedures to prevent backlogs and maintain accuracy of key performance indicators, data processing, and reporting.
• Conduct peer review of health information and outpatient cases to ensure coding compliance, reimbursement accuracy, and continuous quality improvement.
• Oversee data integrity and compliance with standards set by The Joint Commission (TJC), HCAI, CMS, California Department of Public Health, and other regulatory bodies.
• Identify staff training needs, develop and implement education programs, and support recruitment, mentoring, and performance management.
• Provide strategic planning and decision support for business development, outcomes analysis, resource allocation, credentialing, and health policy initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university.
• Three (3) years of professional medical coding experience.
• Valid Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) credential.

Desired Qualifications

• Hospital medical coding experience.
• Experience in health information operations supporting regulatory, compliance, accreditation, licensure, and quality requirements for health care services.
• Experience with electronic health record (eHR) systems, such as EPIC.
• Experience managing health information systems.
• Experience applying LEAN methodology to improve process.
• Experience with health information workflows, clinical and document management systems, and system design principles.
