GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Law Clerk plays a key role in supporting attorneys by conducting legal research, drafting legal documents, and helping attorneys prepare depositions and trials.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct comprehensive legal research utilizing electronic databases and other digital resources.
  • Prepare clear, concise, and well-structured legal memoranda to support case strategy and decision-making.
  • Gather, evaluate, and synthesize relevant facts and case details to assist in ongoing legal matters.
  • Draft pleadings, motions, and other legal documents under the supervision of attorneys.
  • Assist attorneys with deposition and trial preparation, including organizing exhibits and case materials.
  • Handle sensitive information in strict compliance with data protection and confidentiality protocols.
  • Maintain awareness of industry developments, best practices, and emerging legal trends.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned to support legal operations and team objectives.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS, ABILITIES & COMPETENCIES:

  • Proficient in conducting legal research using electronic databases (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis).
  • Strong legal writing skills with the ability to draft clear, concise, and well-organized memoranda and documents.
  • Ability to analyze complex legal issues and synthesize relevant information.
  • Skilled in identifying key facts, legal precedents, and applicable statutes.
  • Meticulous in reviewing legal documents and case files to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Strong proofreading and editing skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Capable of conveying legal concepts clearly to attorneys and other stakeholders.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced legal environment.
  • Skilled in prioritizing assignments and maintaining organized case files.
  • Familiarity with legal research platforms, case management systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Comfortable working with digital tools and maintaining electronic records.
  • Demonstrates a high level of integrity and discretion when handling sensitive information.
  • Adheres to professional standards and confidentiality protocols.
  • Works effectively as part of a legal team, supporting attorneys and other staff.
  • Willing to take initiative and contribute to team goals.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Must have completed at least two years of law school and be entering the third year (2L/3L status)
  • Prior experience in a legal setting, such as internships, clerkships, or paralegal work, strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with legal research tools (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis) and case management systems.
  • Experience drafting legal documents and supporting litigation processes is a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Occasional lifting of packages, office supplies, and documents
