The postdoc scholar will participate in several research projects currently funded by the Pl. Including multi-center projects to develop various machine data mining models including convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and large language models (LLMs) to analyze retinal and corneal data including visual fields, fundus photographs, optical coherence tomography (OCT) images and genetics data for automated screening, diagnosis, prognosis, and monitoring of major eye diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and keratoconus. We have access to large multi-model ophthalmic datasets as well as large single retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) dataset generated using 10x Genomics and Fluidigm technologies at UTHSC.

Qualifications

PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Statistics, or a related field. 


Strong background in machine learning, data mining, statistical analysis, and computational modeling; Experience with programming languages such as Python, R or similar, as well as familiarity with relevant libraries and frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn); Knowledge of ophthalmology, diseases, or related medical fields 
is preferred but not required; Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams; Proven track record of research productivity, including publications in peer-reviewed journals and conference presentations.

In addition, we provide support and services for our postdoc fellows and their faculty mentors. In addition to the Postdoctoral Office, the CGHS offers graduate-level instruction leading to the Doctor of Philosophy, Master of Science, and Master of Dental Science degrees in the programs of Biomedical Engineering, Biomedical Sciences, Dental Sciences, Epidemiology, Health Outcomes and Policy Research, Nursing Science, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmacology, and Speech and Hearing Science. Specialized education beyond the baccalaureate level through advanced study and research training prepares our graduates for careers in academia, industry, and government. Combined professional/Ph.D. are available for exceptionally qualified graduate students.
