Our growing traffic team has designed a variety of local projects, from intersection safety improvements to complete street corridors to system interchange reconstruction. HNTB recently completed the design for a series of complex urban interchanges along I-95 in downtown Providence, developed a comprehensive traffic management plan for the Replacement of the I-495 bridge over the Merrimack River (H-12-039) in Haverhill, and are currently designing several corridors to improve safety and mobility for all users by implementing measures such as shared-use paths, transit priority, adaptive signals, and roundabouts.

We are seeking a motivated and success-oriented Project Engineer to grow client relationships in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, increase their own individual multi-discipline knowledge, and strengthen a core team of traffic engineers.

What You'll Do:

  • Responsible for the planning and distribution of discipline-specific work, and adherence to the schedule and budget on projects.

  • Assists in marketing responsibilities, including proposal generation.

  • Assists with the development of scope of work and level of effort for projects and/or assignments within discipline.

  • Oversees completeness and accuracy of project team’s work within the technical discipline. Guides and mentors team to overall project objectives.

  • Coordinates technical aspects of project with client counterpart and teaming partners at staff level for work within the discipline.

  • Works closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 6 years of relevant experience, or

  • Master’s degree in Engineering and 5 years of relevant experience, or

  • PhD in Engineering and 4 years of relevant experience

What You'll Bring:

  • Produce and modify design calculations, technical reports, engineering plans and specifications for assigned projects.

  • Consult with project managers to perform research, development, calculations, design and delivery.

  • Application of engineering techniques, procedures and design criteria for projects ranging in size and complexity.

  • Leveraging technical knowledge and experience to address design related issues or concerns, working closely with project managers through creative problem solving, interactions with clients and by completing tasks to meet the project schedule.

  • Development of concept-level design solutions for corridors, intersections, and interchanges

  • May mentor, train and review work of junior engineer staff and provide constructive feedback.

  • Contribution to the successful project delivery for a diverse range of projects for HNTB’s clients

  • Coordination with other disciplines such as Highway, Environmental and Structural

  • Evaluation of designs and analyses for completeness and fit

What We Prefer:

  • Proficiency delivering projects for MassDOT and/or RIDOT

  • Proficiency with analysis softwares Synchro, HCS, Sidra, and VISSIM

  • 8 years relevant experience

  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification
