Job Description

The Department of Sociology at the University of Tennessee ? Knoxville invites applications for a position at the level of Associate Professor beginning August 1, 2025 in the area of critical race and ethnic studies. Applicants will be expected to teach classes at the undergraduate, masters, and doctoral level, conduct research, and supervise graduate students in race and ethnicity using a critical perspective. A Ph.D. in Sociology or a related discipline is required. Applicants must be tenured or anticipate being tenured at their current institution at the time of appointment.  

We are particularly interested in candidates who can contribute to the Department of Sociology?s long and enduring reputation for advancing social justice research ( and whose research resonates with our other departmental areas: criminology; environmental sociology; and political economy & globalization. Applicants must demonstrate distinguished scholarship, excellence in teaching, and the ability to seek external funding. The Department and the University are also seeking candidates who can contribute in meaningful ways to our diversity and intercultural goals.
