Job Description

DESCRIPTION

Come build the future of Amazon Linux!

Amazon Linux is a widely utilized Linux distribution available on AWS’s core compute platform EC2 (Elastic Computer Cloud) and other places such as docker, and it is the foundation of what many other AWS’s services were built upon. To uphold customer’s trust, our team commits to ensuring that the system stays secure and up to date.

Our team owns the design and automation process of releasing package updates to the OS. We pride ourselves in the ability to simplify release process and shorten the release timeline, while insist on the highest standards of rigorous testing.

If you are a Software Developer who is passionate about productivity and efficiency, you will enjoy embarking on this journey with our team! You will get to work with similarly minded smart engineers who are the backbones of AWS, and get to play with a variety of tools and technology.

Key job responsibilities
You will have the opportunity to design and implement systems that delight our customers by removing manual processes, migrating existing services over, and deprecating legacy components. You will also learn how things are built and deployed in AWS, brush up on operation excellence, and apply them on the job!

A day in the life
Work/Life Balance: Our team puts a high value on work-life balance. Striking a healthy balance between your personal and professional life is crucial to your happiness and success here, which is why we aren’t focused on how many hours you spend at work or online. Instead, we’re happy to offer a flexible schedule so you can have a more productive and well-balanced life—both in and outside of work.

About the team
Our team of engineers are strong owners and are passionate about problem solving. We believe in building our own destiny.

About Us:
Inclusive Team Culture
Our team is diverse! We drive towards an inclusive culture and work environment. We are intentional about attracting, developing, and retaining amazing talent from diverse backgrounds. Team members are active in Amazon’s 10+ affinity groups, sometimes known as employee resource groups, which bring employees together across businesses and locations around the world. These range from groups such as the Black Employee Network, Latinos at Amazon, Indigenous at Amazon, Families at Amazon, Amazon Women and Engineering, LGBTQ+, Warriors at Amazon (Military), Amazon People With Disabilities, and more.

Work/Life Balance
Our team puts a high value on work-life balance. It isn’t about how many hours you spend at home or at work; it’s about the flow you establish that brings energy to both parts of your life. We believe striking the right balance between your personal and professional life is critical to life-long happiness and fulfillment. We offer flexibility in working hours and encourage you to find your own balance between your work and personal lives. This position involves on-call responsibilities, typically for one week every two months. We don’t like getting paged in the middle of the night or on the weekend, so we work to ensure that our systems are fault tolerant. When we do get paged, we work together to resolve the root cause so that we don’t get paged for the same issue twice.

Mentorship & Career Growth
Our team is dedicated to supporting new members. We have a broad mix of experience levels and tenures, and we’re building an environment that celebrates knowledge sharing and mentorship. Our senior members enjoy one-on-one mentoring and thorough, but kind, code reviews. We care about your career growth and strive to assign projects based on what will help each team member develop into a better-rounded engineer and enable them to take on more complex tasks in the future.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
