Job Description
We are seeking passionate and dedicated Substitute Teachers to provide instruction to adult students (ages 18 and over) in a high school-level learning environment. This role fills in during the absence of regular teachers and may involve both in-person and remote instruction. Positions are available throughout California, with a focus on the following counties: Nevada, Riverside, Monterey, Kern, Los Angeles (Antelope Valley), Merced, Ventura, and Butte.
The ideal candidate will have experience working with diverse student populations and utilizing effective language acquisition strategies through both synchronous and asynchronous instruction.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver engaging, high-quality instruction in core subjects using prepared lesson plans in a self-contained classroom setting.
Utilize the Canvas Learning Management System for online instruction.
Assess student performance through observation, evaluation, and grading of assignments, projects, and tests.
Maintain student records in a timely and organized manner.
Utilize the Aeries Student Information System for grading and academic tracking.
Provide guidance on career and educational opportunities in coordination with school counselors.
Manage classroom behavior and create a positive learning environment.
Develop and implement innovative learning activities tailored to adult learners.
Foster an inclusive and culturally responsive learning environment for students from diverse backgrounds.
Uphold the organization's core values and educational philosophy.
Qualifications:
To excel in this role, candidates should possess the following skills and abilities:
Strong understanding of policies, procedures, and ethical guidelines related to education.
Ability to effectively manage student behavior and promote a positive learning experience.
Proficiency in data analysis to assess and support student growth.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and other educational technology platforms.
Adaptability in learning and utilizing software for online instruction.
Ability to address diverse academic, social-emotional, and developmental needs.
Strong communication and collaboration skills within a team setting.
Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Requirements:
Clearance for tuberculosis (TB) screening prior to employment.
Department of Justice (DOJ) clearance.
Bachelor's degree required.
Valid 30-Day Substitute Permit, Multiple Subject, or Single Subject Teaching Credential.
Experience working with rural or farm-working communities is preferred but not required.
Bilingual in Spanish is a plus, but not required.
Certifications (Required or to be obtained after hire):
Current Food Handler's Certificate (within 30 days of hire).
Child Care Provider's Mandated Reporter Certificate (within 90 days of hire).
Travel Requirements:
Must be able to travel as needed for job-related responsibilities.
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
Regularly required to use hands for handling and operating equipment.
Frequent standing, sitting, reaching, and walking.
Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or lift up to 40 lbs.
Must have the ability to work at a desk for extended periods, using a computer.
