Job Description


American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Trauma ICU position requiring a NE or compact license, with Level 1 trauma experience and night shift availability.

Responsibilities


  • Position is in the Trauma ICU of an acute care hospital
  • Level 1 trauma center with 18 beds, caring for adults and patients over 15 years old
  • Patient population includes trauma, sepsis, stroke, ARDS, MODS, COPD, and cardiac arrest cases
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:1-2 in ICU and 1:4 in PCU
  • RNs titrate drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
  • Specialized equipment includes CVPs, IABP, Impella, Alines, Swans, EV-1000, ICP monitoring, Zoll-Thermoguard, and Bell Mont rapid transfuse
  • EPIC EMR system is used
  • Night shifts are 12 hours long (1830-0630) with self-scheduling managed by the manager
  • Required to work 4 weekend shifts per 6-week period
  • RNs float to all inpatient units except Maternity/NICU
  • Care for critically ill trauma patients in a fast-paced environment requiring strong critical thinking and teamwork
  • Mandatory compliance with fingernail policy prohibiting artificial nails for all patient care providers
  • Two shifts of unit-specific orientation provided
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • Charge nurse is present on each shift and patient care tech support is available
  • RNs responsible for reading and interpreting Draeger heart monitor telemetry strips
  • Nasal cannula to vent management required
  • Holiday coverage may be required as scheduled
  • 7 days or less of requested time off allowed up front per 13-week contract and must be submitted in advance

Requirements


  • Active NE or compact RN license required at time of submission
  • Minimum 2 years of recent Trauma ICU experience required
  • Certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS must be active at submission
  • No previous full time, part time, or PRN employment at any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the last year
  • Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility and driver's license will be used to verify address
  • Manager interview required
  • No license or background hits allowed
  • Must pass an open book skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%
  • Two professional references required, including one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, with employment dates and rehire eligibility included
  • Will not accept first-time travelers
