About the Role:

The Gas Meter Installer reports to the Smart Meter Deployment Manager at Bermex. This position will play a key role in gas meter maintenance, exchange, and measurement. This position requires a high degree of walking in outdoor environmental conditions, excellent time management, and exceptional flexibility day to day.

Salary Range Disclaimer:

The base salary range represents the low and high end of the Bermex salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to customer contact terms, location, experience, and performance. Other rewards may include Paid Time Off, 401(k) retirement savings plan with company match, ESOP contributions, medical, dental, and vision insurance, and other region-specific benefits as eligible.

Salary Transparency Disclaimer: For those residing in NY, the pay for this role is at $25/hr.

What You’ll Do:

Gas Meter Exchanges:

• Perform visual inspections of gas service for leaks.
• Identify hazards at meter sites and report accordingly.
• Properly change out gas meters of varying sizes and brands.
• Properly change out gas meter registers for AMI/AMR upgrade.
• Perform safety checks to ensure proper installation.
• May require walking for long distances (occasionally up to 20 miles per day) in various weather conditions (rain, sleet, hail, snow, extreme heat or cold, etc.).
• May exert physical force moving objects (routinely 10lbs. of force, up to an occasional 50 lbs. of force).

Customer Communication:

• Refers all consumer complaints to the appropriate authorities.
• May provide general information about the meter services to customers, when applicable.
• Use telephones, tablets, and/or computers to communicate.

About You:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education: None. Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Experience: Experience in exchanging gas/electric/water meters of varying sizes with ability to properly safety test, and troubleshoot . Upon hire, the candidate will need to complete and pass all Pipeline Operator Qualification (OQ) training.
• In lieu of meter experience, will accept comparable technical experience and skill.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Education: High School Degree.
• 1 year’s experience in exchanging gas meters of varying sizes with ability to properly safety test, troubleshoot and relight pilot lights on a variety of existing appliances.

Your Skills:

• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Ability to multi-task and work independently as well as a team.
• Exceptional flexibility in daily routines and route scheduling. Must be flexible in times of need, including extended nights and weekends.
• Adequate time management skills to finish daily assignments in a timely manner.
• Excellent communication skills, comfortable interacting management and customers.
• Ability to interact with unhappy or negative customers in a professional manner.
• Excellent attention to detail for problem solving.
• Ability to walk long distances and prepare for weather conditions, accordingly.
• Proficient computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
• Place a high value on safety, quality of work, and operational procedures.

This role would not be a good fit if:

• You don’t enjoy working independently.
• Do not enjoy working in outdoor conditions.
• Do not enjoy walking long distances.
• Are not flexible and do not enjoy adapting to your current work schedule or routine.
• Do not have adequate planning and time management skills to finish a day’s work in a timely manner.
• Drug/alcohol testing is required.

• Drug/alcohol testing is required.
• Drug/alcohol testing required per non-regulatory requirements for employees working with water, electric, and meters.
• Drug/alcohol testing required per Federal DOT Regulations for employees working with gas meters.

Where We Work:

Employees will begin their day at the local office where they will pick up their company vehicle, equipment, and assignments for the day.
