About Winter Jazzfest

Winter Jazzfest (WJF) is one of the world’s leading showcases for jazz and creative music. Each January, WJF transforms New York City into a hub for discovery, dialogue, and celebration, presenting established legends, groundbreaking new artists, and everything in between. With a vibrant community of fans, musicians, and industry leaders, WJF is more than a festival—it’s a cultural movement.

Position: Social Media Manager

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Social Media Manager to join the Winter Jazzfest 2026 team. This role is ideal for someone with a passion for music, live events, and digital storytelling, who thrives in a fast-paced festival environment. The Social Media Assistant will work closely with the marketing and communications team to execute daily social content, highlight key festival updates, and engage audiences across multiple platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Content Creation & Scheduling
  • Draft and schedule posts across Instagram, Facebook, Twitter/X, and TikTok in alignment with WJF’s content calendar.
  • Create engaging captions, hashtags, and stories to highlight festival programming, ticket packages, merch sales, and artist announcements.
  • Support live coverage during the festival (IG Stories, TikTok, Twitter threads, Reels)

Festival Marketing Support

  • Promote ticket sales, all-festival passes, seated shows, and sold-out updates in real time.
  • Collaborate with the design team to update artist assets (e.g., Vijay Iyer, Theon Cross) and ensure consistency across platforms.
  • Assist with the promotion of contests, giveaways, holiday sales, and merch (Strata East T-shirts, sweatshirts, hats, etc.).

Scene Awareness & Curatorial Input

  • Stay up-to-date with the broader modern jazz and creative music landscape , including artist news, album releases, media coverage, and cultural conversations.
  • Proactively flag and share relevant non-festival content across WJF accounts to keep channels dynamic, connected, and in dialogue with the global jazz community.
  • Recognize opportunities to amplify artists and organizations aligned with WJF’s values of creativity, inclusivity, and innovation.

Community Engagement

  • Monitor comments, mentions, and DMs across platforms; respond in a timely and professional manner.
  • Track trending conversations around Winter Jazzfest and boost visibility for participating artists.

On-Site Coverage

  • Support in capturing behind-the-scenes content during the festival, including short interviews, audience reactions, and venue highlights.
  • Help implement signage, slideshows, and interactive map/social features for festival attendees.

Coordination & Administration

  • Work with team members on deadline-driven tasks such as wristband announcements, ad updates (NYC Jazz Fest, NYC Jazz Record), and editorial content rollouts.
  • Provide support for the festival newsletter and cross-promotion of media coverage.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience managing or assisting with social media for events, music, or cultural organizations.
  • Strong writing skills with the ability to capture WJF’s voice and convey enthusiasm for jazz and creative music.
  • Knowledge of the modern jazz and creative music scene —including key artists, venues, media outlets, and cultural trends.
  • Familiarity with design tools (Canva, Photoshop, or similar) and scheduling platforms (Later, Buffer, Hootsuite).
  • Knowledge of current social media trends, especially TikTok and Instagram Reels.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends during the festival (January 2026).
  • Passion for live music, with knowledge of the jazz and creative music scene a plus.

Ideal Candidate Profiles

  • Graduate Student in Jazz Studies, Ethnomusicology, or Arts Administration with strong ties to the NYC music community and experience managing artist or venue accounts.
  • Independent Music Journalist, Blogger, or Critic who already tracks and posts about contemporary jazz and creative music, and wants to apply their knowledge in a festival context.
  • Emerging Arts Administrator or Publicist who has worked in a cultural nonprofit, record label, or venue and is eager to grow skills in social and digital marketing.
  • Content Creator / Social Media Enthusiast with demonstrated experience growing a personal or organizational account, who brings an informed, creative voice to covering live music.
